Helen Lingard

Distinguished Professor, RMIT

Helen is a researcher and educator in the field of construction work health and safety with 28 years of post-doctoral experience. She currently leads the Construction Work Health and Safety @ RMIT research group at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.

Helen was the recipient of an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship in the first round of the program (2009) and has also been a Chief Investigator in five ARC Linkage Projects (three as lead), one Discovery Project (as lead) and one National Health and Medical Research Council Partnership Project.

Helen's research has been funded by Australian government agencies (including SafeWork Australia, the Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, SafeWork NSW, icare NSW, WorkSafe ACT and WorkSafe Victoria), as well as international bodies including the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (under a subcontract agreement with Virginia Tech.) and the Chartered Institute of Building (UK).

Helen works closely with industry and government partners and, since 2018, has been an independent member of the Culture in Construction Taskforce that is driving industry reform in relation to work hours, gender diversity and mental health in the Australian construction industry.
